Discussion Post: Film holds no “Gravity” without Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie was all smiles with Knox and Vivienne when she brought them to visit Brad on set, but it doesn’t look like she’s making any plans to fly a space ship – much to Alfonso Cuaron’s disappointment.

Angelina-Jolie-charity-medium-newAccording to Cinema Blend, Cuaron is currently only interested in getting Angelina to star as an astronaut trying to make her way back to Earth solo. Unfortunately for him, Angelina isn’t interested in the role. She has her Bosnian love story film to concentrate on, promotions for The Tourist, and an interest in Maleficent and Cleopatra.

I think the main reason she’s turning down the role is because she only has so much professional time to spare and has to choose the ones that are most important to her. On the other hand, I have also heard rumors that Angelina might think that the role isn’t well developed enough, that it focuses too much on the action but not enough on the character development. I don’t know how true that is though.

In the meantime the debate is on as to who could replace Angelina in the role; it currently has Robert Downey Jr. on board but his role is nowhere near as central to the storyline as the female lead. Apparently they’ve had interest from actresses such as Blake Lively, Scarlett Johansson, Sandra Bullock, and Olivia Wilde among others, but Cuaron isn’t as enthusiastic.

Who do you think could take on the role? I’m a bit of a space fanatic myself and wouldn’t mind seeing Angelina Jolie playing an astronaut but I hope they won’t shelve the whole film if she doesn’t sign on. I think that with Salt having so much success with a female in a strong lead action role, it’s a perfect time for Hollywood to start setting more women forward to follow in Angelina’s footsteps. There’s no reason for women to only play victims or love interests.

If I can’t have Angelina Jolie in this film I wouldn’t mind seeing someone like Charlize Theron, Sandra Bullock, or maybe even Milla Jovovich in the role. Who are your suggestions? It’s been awhile since we’ve had a discussion post so let’s talk about this!

One word of caution: I’m still out in Halifax and right as I type now Hurricane Earl is barreling his way up the coast and is expected to make landfall early Saturday morning. I’m not too worried about dangers but we might lose power so if you comment, get stuck in moderation, and I don’t get to it anytime soon, please forgive me but I may have no electricity to get online! Let’s hope that we can have a fun discussion without too many moderated comments!

Angelina Jolie takes the twins to see Brad Pitt on set

Yesterday, September 2nd, Angelina Jolie was spotted bringing Knox and Vivienne to see Brad Pitt while he was on the set to film Moneyball.

Brad was on lunch break and it’s said to have been a surprise visit. What a great thing to see when you’re in between scenes, to see the woman you love and two of your kids! According to X17 Online the visit was a brief one, just a half hour. It was probably timed so that they’d leave before Brad had to get back to work.

One of X17’s own photographers had something really nice to say about Angelina:

“Angelina was totally hands-on. She didn’t have a nanny with her — she carried in Knox and then came back to the chauffeured car for Viv. Angie was in such a good mood and the kids seemed so happy. At one point, Vivienne pushed her blanket into her mom’s mouth and Angelina just laughed and went along with it. She loves to play with the kids and has a really good sense of humor with them.”

I love reading nice first-hand accounts about Brad or Angelina! If you click the link above you can see the picture where Vivienne is pushing her blanket up into Angelina’s mouth and it’s so cute.

Enjoy!

Angelina Jolie asks for help for Pakistan

In a PSA for the UNHCR, Angelina Jolie asks for help for Pakistan to provide enough tents, food, water, and other necessities to those who are currently suffering from the aftermath of the flooding.

It’s heartbreaking to hear the numbers and to see the people of Pakistan who are currently suffering so much – and facing so much more. I’ve made a donation to the Red Cross, only because the UNHCR doesn’t have a Paypal option at this time, but at this point anything that can get out there and help those in need is a blessing.

I know everyone has their own financial concerns and I know that – as Angelina has mentioned before – there’s currently donation fatigue going on with so many people having helped with Haiti. However, if you have even a few dollars to share, I urge you to consider making a donation to any of the charitable organizations who can help, whether it’s the UNHCR, Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam, you name it. Let’s rally along with Angelina Jolie and show the people of Pakistan that we care. If you make the donation online and there’s a box that allows you to leave a note, let them know that JoliePittWatch.com is all about helping – it’s great to be able to show how the online community can gather together to take care of others.
